I wear my undercap for pretty much the whole day, sometimes 10–12 hours… I love that I can focus on my haircare without having oil sitting under my scarf all day.

Will it be under my scarf?

No. It goes on at night under the satin bonnet and is washed out in the morning, so your hair is clean and dry before your hijab goes on.

What about wudu?

It's on overnight and washed out in the morning, so there's no oil on your hair during the day. For rulings, ask your scholar.

When will I notice anything?

It leaves hair feeling soft and conditioned. Give the routine a fair run of nightly use before you judge it. Results vary. We'll never promise a new hairline.

What if it isn't for me?

The 90-Night Promise: your 90 nights start the day your order is delivered. Not for you? Send one email to support@tryhilal.com with your order number. No forms. You get a full refund, shipping included, back to your original payment method within 5 business days. Keep the jar. Nothing to send back.

Shipping

Free shipping on every kit. The 2-jar Starter on its own ships for $5.99, or free on orders $59+ (add the scalp massager and it ships free). Ships from our US warehouse · arrives in 3–8 business days, with tracking.

If your order hasn't arrived 20 business days after it ships, email support@tryhilal.com and we'll resend or refund, your choice.

When the scarf comes off

The moment nobody else sees.

The scarf comes off at night. You catch the mirror, and your eyes go straight to the temples. You push the hair forward a little and wonder: is it getting worse?

If you know that moment, you're far from alone.

“On the hairline I feel tension while wearing an undercap under my hijab.”
— a hijabi, on Reddit

“There’s so much tension on my head, like my hair is being pulled backward.”
— a hijabi, on Reddit

“Only at the front where the cap is pulling.”
— a hijabi, on Reddit

That worry is real. And it has a cause that isn't you.

The Undercap Pull

It was never a hijab problem. It was a timing problem.

And it's not you. Women covered loosely for centuries. What's new is the tight tube undercap and the bun under it, holding the same front line back 8 to 12 hours a day, every day. That's the Undercap Pull.

All that pull and rub lands on one strip: the hairline and temples. That's why breakage shows at the front, never the back. Hair breaks where it's held.

"Wear it looser." "Take breaks." That advice asks you to change how you cover. You shouldn't have to. What has to change is when that line gets its care.

  • 8 to 12 hours a day
  • The same front line
  • Free only at night

The Night Window

The only hours that line is free.

Every night, after Isha, the cap comes off. For up to 8 hours there's no cap, no bun and no pull. That's the Night Window: the only time the front line is free to get real care.

Use it, and the strip that works hardest all day finally gets its turn. Nothing about how you cover changes.

  • Up to 8 hours, no cap
  • Oil on at night
  • Washed out by morning
  • Warm and massage: a fingertip dips into an open jar of Hilal batana oil

    1. Warm and massage

A fingertip of oil, worked slowly into the hairline and temples: the line the cap holds all day.

  • Satin bonnet on: the black satin bow bonnet on ivory linen with a jar of Hilal batana oil

    2. Satin bonnet on

Less friction overnight, and no oil on the pillow.

  • Wash out in the morning: a jar of Hilal batana oil on a bathroom shelf in morning light

    3. Wash out in the morning

Clean, dry hair before your scarf goes on, and softer edges to show for it.

Each helps. Only one uses the night.

Each of these does something real. Many women pair a silk cap with the night routine.

    Mornings you’re proud of.

The scarf comes off and you don't check the mirror first. Thicker-looking edges at the temples. Less breakage at the hairline. Hair that feels softer and stronger, all of it yours.

Your covering stays exactly as it is. Your hair stops paying for it.

      Questions, answered

      Ask us anything

Do I stop wearing my undercap?

No. Nothing about how you cover changes. The routine only uses the night.

Will it stain my cap or pillow?

No. It's never under your scarf, and the satin bonnet keeps it off the pillow.

      Is it halal?

Yes. It's a single plant oil, batana, with no alcohol and no animal-derived ingredients, so it's halal-friendly and vegan. (Hilal means crescent moon.)

      Is it real batana?

Our supplier lists one ingredient: batana oil. Nothing else is added.

How long does a jar last?

A 120 g jar, and a fingertip a night is all you use.

      Is it a subscription?

No. One-time purchase. Every jar on your order ships, with tracking.

2.5% of our profits go to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund.

On every order. Hilal means crescent moon.

I wear my undercap for pretty much the whole day, sometimes 10–12 hours. And honestly, the area around my temples is what I've always worried about most. I can't just loosen my hair because then everything starts coming undone. I wanted something I could do without changing how I wear my hijab. That's why I started using Hilal at night. I massage a little oil around my hairline, put on my satin bonnet, and wash it out in the morning. It takes about 5 minutes, and I love that I can focus on my haircare without having oil sitting under my scarf all day.
